What we do:
The San Jose Mission is a planned residential community and education/social services campus for low-income agricultural worker families. The site offers a residential community composed of 122 low-income family rental units. The Mission also currently hosts a community partnership of health, education, and social services agencies that provide a day care center for 90 children (operated by Redlands Christian Migrant Association); an adult education and literacy program (provided by Hillsborough County Schools); a parish nurse (provided by St. Joseph’s/Baptist Hospital). Catholic Charities provides counseling, housing counseling, immigration services, life skills education and case management for children, families, and individuals.
Another program targeting farm workers is the Catholic Mobile Medical Services program. This program provides medical screening and follow-up medical care to farm workers and other low-income residents of East and South Hillsborough County. Services are provided on a medically equipped bus at various locations including churches, missions and farm worker housing projects and camps. A stationary medical office is located at the San Jose Mission. In addition to medical care, health promotion and disease prevention education is provided in the targeted communities. The program is staffed by volunteer medical professionals and qualified staff.
Who we serve:
Each social services/educational agency has specific eligibility requirements. Most programs target low income families or individuals. Only low income families involved in agriculture or aquaculture industries are eligible for the housing component. Child care is limited to migrant farm workers.
